BrainNook provides extensive controls to ensure that your students stay safe while on the site. We are committed to providing a safe and friendly environment in which kids can learn while playing with their friends.
Messaging only between friends
Messages can be exchanged only between friends. Your students can decline any friend request someone sends them, preventing that player from messaging them. If they receive an inappropriate message from a friend, they can "un-friend" that player to prevent that player from messaging them again.
Teacher Control of Friends Outside the Classroom
Teachers can control whether their students are allowed to make friends with players outside their classroom. If teachers choose to disable outside friends, their students can only make friends and exchange messages with their classmates. This allows teachers to ensure that their students are not messaging players they do not know in real life.
Reviewing Chat Logs
Teachers can review a log of all messages sent or received by their students at any time. This allows them to make sure that their students are using the chat feature in a responsible manner.
Safe Chat
Even when two players are already friends with each other, they can only type messages to each other using a set of approved words, which prevents them from revealing their real name, physical or email address, or any personal information.
Disabling Typed Chat for Specific Students
Teachers can even turn off typed chat for specific students who may be behaving inappropriately. When this setting is enabled, students can only send public messages by selecting from a set of pre-selected phrases from a menu; they cannot type in chat messages, and they cannot send one-to-one messages to friends.
Friend List Review
BrainNook gives teachers transparency into their students' list of friends. Teachers can review any student's friends from the student list screen in their teacher account. They can even delete friends they consider inappropriate.
Report to Moderator
Any message can be reported to a moderator by simply clicking on the "M" button displayed with the message; we review all reports we receive, and ban players who are behaving inappropriately.
Blocking Players
Players can also block another player from contacting them entirely by clicking on the "B" button displayed along with that player's information. This will make it impossible for that other player to contact them again.
